Kabane Kusaka (
Appearance
Kabane has a short stature, pale skin, short black hair, and dull red eyes. Originally, he only wears the clothes provided by his aunt which are bathhouse clothes. After being recruited by Inugami at the detective office, he wears a black, short sleeve hoodie with a skeleton print and baggy sweatpants, that were originally Shiki's clothes. He also wears a simple pair of shoes. and is seen wearing a pair of red gloves.
If his Life Calus is stripped away from him he transforms into his kemono form. The entire sclerae of his eyes become red with a blue center. A horn is also seen on the right side of his head while the rest of his body changes into a dark greyish color, being quite veinous in appearance and his arm also enlarges, being much bigger than most of his body.

Personality
Possibly due to his neglectful upbringing, Kabane has difficulties identifying and expressing emotions experienced by himself or others (Alexithymia). He is blunt in his responses and can be naïve — this includes taking things at face value and not questioning the truth in other people's words. Through the course of his time at the Inugami Detective Office, Kabane becomes more expressive and less naïve due to his interactions with others. He cares for his friends and strives to protect them and, when in battle, does not consider his own well-being, seeking only to stop the enemy from hurting him or his friends in whatever way possible. Despite the coolness of his exterior, the bluntness of his personality, and his ferocity when fighting, Kabane is empathic and gentle. This is most apparent in his diligence to avoid hurting even small bugs if he is able to, and he goes out of his way to rescue them if they are in peril. When questioned about this virtue, he explains that he identifies with the desire of all living things to live and considers himself and them to be in "the same boat." Therefore, he avoids killing whenever possible, even as he doesn't hesitate to take life in self-defense or the defense of others.
Background
Kabane has been taken care of by his aunt since he was young, as a favor of her older sister, Kabane's mother. Since then, Kabane has lived with his aunt, Mrs. Kusaka and cousin, Yataro at the Deer Village and was given a job to work where he wouldn't be around anyone due to his foul smell. [2] It is implied that his smell is actually a kemono's natural scent, since nobody human comments on his smell after Inugami gives him a perfume that masks kemono musk.
Kabane is originally not a hybird but a human that's been given a ghoul's flame.[4]
Powers & Abilities

- Regeneration: Kabane is able to regrow body parts that have been ripped off. Even as to being decapitated, he can regrow his body. [5] His regeneration powers are also seen even when his body is burnt leaving only his skull behind. Due to this, his regeneration powers are utilized by Nobimaru to defeat Yui.[6] However, there are restrictions to his regenerative powers, he cannot regrow back his body when he is enclosed in a small space, such as a suitcase.[5] If his body is set on flames, there is a possibility that the rate at which he burns will exceed the way he regenerates, possibly resulting in his body breaking down.[7] When decapitated, his separated body cannot be attached back to his head, hence, the separated body will remain as a corpse.

- Immortality: Because Kabane is half-ghoul he cannot die though will stop moving if he is decapitated since he is without a body, but can still communicate with others.
- Superhuman Strength: Kabane has shown to have immense strength, through decapitating and ripping creatures apart with his bare hands despite his smaller size. However whenever he activates more of his Kemono heritage he grows even stronger than his normal state.
- Pain Nullity: Because Kabane is half-ghoul, he doesn't feel pain, even when his skin was ripped off his ankle by Shiki's webs. Even when his body is set ablaze he is still shown to move freely without screaming in pain or even flinching.[8]
- Body Dismemberment: Kabane can separate a part of his body and use it however he means.[9] He can also detached his head from his body however his decapitated body only moves around for three seconds. [10]

- Kabane's given name is comprised of the kanji for "summer" (夏, ka) and "wing" (羽, hane/bane).
- Kusaka contains the kanji for "day" (日, ku) and "under" (下, saka).

- "Kusaka" is his aunt's last name.
- Kabane isn't sure of his age, presumably not keeping track due to his lack of normal childhood and common knowledge, and only stating 13 as "probably". [14]
- Kabane has a habit of smiling wide when he's lying.[15]

- Kabane does not wear an apron when cooking, particularly he doesn't care about it.[17]
